Position: Tutor - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
Job Description:

The Trailblazer Tutor Center utilizes peer-to-peer leadership to provide comprehensive academic support. Their services focus on two primary pillars:

* Executive Functioning & Study

Skills:

Tutors assist students in mastering foundational academic habits, including time management, effective note taking, and test-taking strategies.

* Cognitive & Subject Mastery:
The center provides guidance on critical thinking and problem-solving while offering specialized content tutoring for specific courses the student leaders have already successfully completed.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for tutors at the Trailblazer Tutor Center are structured around administrative accuracy, professional engagement, and continuous development:

* Administrative & Reporting Duties:

* Documentation:
Maintain accurate, objective, and prompt session logs and attendance records via Navigate
360 (for both appointment-based and drop-in sessions).

* Payroll:
Submit a tutor timesheet for payment every two weeks. These must be submitted by 9:00am on Thursdays following the MCLA Student Payroll Calendar.

* Oversight:
Meet regularly with the Academic Support Coordinator to review session progress and address any concerns.

* Availability:
Provide their availability for tutoring on a regular basis, updating it as needed.

Session Management & Conduct

* Professionalism:
Conduct all tutoring sessions punctually and with a professional demeanor.

* Learning Environment:
Engage with tutees using a judgment-free, positive approach that fosters empathy and supports every student's potential for success.

* Mission Advocacy:
Actively promote the mission of the Trailblazer Tutor Center as a student leader.

Training & Growth

* Certification Training:
Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions, including the mandatory training course on Canvas.

* Periodic Meetings:
Participate in monthly training meetings with the Academic Support coordinator.

Tutors at the Trailblazer Tutor Center receive a base hourly compensation of $15.00/hour while gaining significant professional advantages. Requirements:

Qualifications

To become a tutor at the Trailblazer Tutor Center, students must meet specific academic, technical, and professional requirements for the academic year:

Academic Requirements

* GPA:
Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

* Course Performance:
Tutors must have earned a grade of B or better in any specific course they intend to tutor.

* Faculty Recommendations:
Candidates are required to be recommended by two faculty members who can vouch for their academic proficiency and character.

Strategy & Technical Skills

* Learning Strategies:
Tutors must demonstrate success in modeling study skills, including time management, effective note taking, and test-taking strategies.

* Technology Proficiency:
Confidence in navigating key academic platforms is essential, specifically:

o Canvas (Learning Management System).

o Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

o Navigate 360 (used for scheduling appointments and student success tracking).

Professionalism & Training

* Communication

Skills:

Tutors are expected to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to engage and empathize with peers.

* Certification Training:
Once hired, tutors must complete training through a specialized Canvas course and attend monthly meetings with the coordinator.

Additional Information:
