Manice Education Center Outdoor Educator Town of Florida, MA 01247 Christodora, a126-year-old nonprofit, nonsectarian organization, basedin NYC, seeks Outdoor Educators (OEs) toworkat its Manice Education Center (MEC) locatedinthe heartof the Berkshire

Mountains of Western Massachusettsona 200-acrewoodedcampusfor the 2025 spring,summer,and/orfallseasons. Eachspringandfall,MEC hosts twofieldtripsper weekfor NYC public middle schools, serving approximately
30students during each trip;and each summer, MECoffers afull seasonofenvironmentaland expedition(backpacking and canoeing) courses for NYCyouth ingrades6-12 withapproximately
40campers inage-grouped sessions, running approximatelyoneto threeweeksin length. Enjoy living and working inaphenomenalsetting for natureenthusiastsandoutdoor adventurers ina forested playground, sandwiched between multiplestateforests,rivers, and ponds. Thisroleisespeciallyapplicable for guides, facilitators,teachers,learning specialists, mentors,paraprofessionals,interpretive rangers, adventure guides, andyouth development specialists. OEs inthe

Fall/Spring School Programs workasresidential, recreational camp counselors, facilitating three-day,school-chaperoned, science, technology,engineering, andmath (STEM) field tripsatand nearby MECfor our partner NYCpublicschools.

Staff work closely in asupportive atmosphereandteachsmall,mixed-gender groupsof 12youthinall types of weather inforest, mountain,and pond settings during thespringand fall.

TheMECstaff livesin similarly rustichousingas students from Monday through Thursday each week: large, canvas-walled tentsontop oflargewooden platforms that can fit uptoeight beds. Join our Spring Team:

Sept3–Oct 31,2025 Spring/Fall Training Opportunities Red Cross First Aid,CPR/AED, low-ropes challenge course facilitation through

Project Adventure,and Verbal Intervention through theCrisis Prevention Institute .Additionally,all educators receive hands-on trainingandongoing professional development inthedelivery ofan active, outdoor,experientiallydrivencurriculum, grounded in social-emotionaldevelopmentand trauma-informed care Summer Training Opportunities Wilderness First Aid through SOLO Wilderness Medicine;
Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding (optional); lowropeschallenge course facilitation through Project Adventure;and
1.5day professional canoe training onflat and whitewater. Additionally,all educators receive hands-on training and ongoing professional developmentinthe delivery of anactive,outdoor, experientially driven curriculum,grounded insocial-emotional development and trauma-informed care Responsibilities
● Inspire curiosityaboutthe natural world through discovery-based activities in a varietyof ecosystems
● Facilitate low-ropes challengecourseactivities designed for teamwork, communication, leadership skills,trust, andsocial-emotional outcomes
● Plan activeand experiential lessons fromMEC’sdiscovery-based curriculum
● Work closelywithothereducators within activity groups tocreate meaningful, problem-based, experiential,andactive environmentalsciencelessons
● Provide overnight supervision onarotating schedule for uptosix youthin canvas-walled, cabinstyletentsonlargewoodenplatforms
● Celebrateasa campcommunitywith skits,music,ands’moresatour campfire program (rain or shine) ina covered gazebo surroundedbyforest
● Problem-solve unexpected studentbehaviorthrough restorative circles Qualifications

Required:

Adventurous spirit, willingnesstolearn, passion for the outdoors,andenjoy connecting with youth fromNYC Backgroundclearancesandmedical physicalfroma licensed medical professional required BA/BS inrelated discipline, demonstrableprofessionalexperience,and/or previous Christodora program experience Preferred:
