Mountains of Western Massachusettsona 200-acrewoodedcampusfor the 2025 spring,summer,and/orfallseasons. Eachspringandfall,MEC hosts twofieldtripsper weekfor NYC public middle schools, servingapproximately
30students duringeach trip;and each summer, MECoffers afull seasonofenvironmentaland expedition(backpacking andcanoeing) courses for NYCyouth ingrades6-12 with approximately
40campers inage-grouped sessions, running approximatelyoneto threeweeksin length. Enjoy living and working inaphenomenalsetting for natureenthusiastsandoutdoor adventurers ina forestedplayground, sandwichedbetween multiplestateforests,rivers, and ponds. Thisroleisespeciallyapplicable for guides, facilitators,teachers,learningspecialists, mentors,paraprofessionals,interpretive rangers, adventureguides, andyouth development specialists. OEs inthe
Fall/Spring School Programs workasresidential, recreationalcamp counselors, facilitatingthree-day,school-chaperoned, science, technology,engineering, andmath (STEM) field tripsatand nearby MECfor our partner NYCpublicschools.
Staff work closely in asupportive atmosphereandteachsmall,mixed-gender groupsof 12youthinall types of weather inforest, mountain,and pondsettings during thespringand fall.
TheMECstaff livesin similarly rustichousingas students from Monday through Thursdayeach week: large, canvas-walled tentsontop oflargewooden platforms that can fit uptoeight beds. Join our Spring Team:

Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding (optional); lowropeschallenge coursefacilitation through Project Adventure;and
1.5day professionalcanoe training onflat andwhitewater. Additionally,alleducators receive hands-on training and ongoingprofessional developmentinthe delivery of anactive,outdoor, experientially drivencurriculum,grounded insocial-emotional development and trauma-informed care Responsibilities

● Facilitatelow-ropes challengecourseactivities designedfor teamwork, communication, leadership skills,trust, andsocial-emotionaloutcomes
● Plan activeand experientiallessons fromMEC’sdiscovery-based curriculum
● Work closelywithothereducators within activitygroups tocreate meaningful, problem-based, experiential,andactive environmentalsciencelessons
● Provide overnightsupervision onarotating schedule for uptosix youthin canvas-walled, cabinstyletentsonlargewoodenplatforms
● Celebrateasa campcommunitywith skits,music,ands’moresatour campfireprogram (rain or shine) ina coveredgazebo surroundedbyforest
● Problem-solve unexpected studentbehaviorthrough restorativecircles Qualifications
Required:
Adventurousspirit, willingnesstolearn, passion for theoutdoors,andenjoy connectingwith youth fromNYC Backgroundclearancesandmedical physicalfroma licensedmedical professionalrequired BA/BS inrelated discipline, demonstrableprofessionalexperience,and/or previous Christodora program experience Preferred:
