Job Description: The Executive Director (ED) of The Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Center for Creativity in the Arts is responsible for leading MCLA's public arts program—MOSAIC—while developing Kleefeld Center programming, managing gallery spaces, and working with faculty and students to promote arts and culture. The ED will organize and implement creative programming to enhance and promote MCLA as a national leader of art and arts education locally, regionally, and globally.

The ED works to cultivate relationships, introduce new offerings, and further Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). The ED oversees artistic programming, budgeting, and staffing for the facility and MOSAIC, during the transition period and after opening in Fall 2027. The Director will be the primary contact between MOSAIC and the donor s representative regarding funds and programming.

Reports To: Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

Supervision: MOSAIC Program Manager, interns, and student staff

Statement of

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop, and manage arts and culture programming. The Executive Director will:

    • oversee and implement MCLA community and campus arts programming such as exhibitions, performances and public lectures in both the Campagna Kleefeld Center for Creativity in the Arts and other locations on and off campus;
    • oversee and implement annual Benedetti and Summer Arts Immersion residency programs;
    • connect the MCLA community with surrounding communities to ensure MCLA s presence and representation in the local and global arts community;
    • produce an internationally diverse program that is collaborative, thought-provoking, sustainable, and distinctive in its willingness to push creative boundaries;
    • respond to current issues, social trends and global themes so that programming remains timely and relevant.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of activities under MOSAIC. The Executive Director will:

    • manage budgets and planning for MOSAIC and its programs; with VPAA approval, negotiate, create, and execute contracts for artists, staff, independent contractors and vendors;
    • oversee and collaborate with the MCLA Marketing Department to plan marketing for MOSAIC including print and social media;
    • oversee Kleefeld Center events schedule, curatorial projects, and programs to ensure diverse visual offerings;
    • hire and supervise Kleefeld Center and MOSAIC personnel;
    • hire and support student interns.
  • Work with academic departments to advance MOSAIC goals and integrate into the MCLA curriculum. The Director will:

    • communicate regularly with faculty and staff regarding departmental needs and goals;
    • foster faculty relationships to embed the arts within course curricula and enhance student learning across disciplines.
  • Support & promote faculty intersections through MOSAIC interdisciplinary scholarships and professional development opportunities.

  • Be the community liaison for arts and cultural partnerships between MCLA and the wider community. The ED will:

    • identify and write grants, obtain sponsor ships and contributions, cultivate donors and plan fundraising events;
    • cultivate and manage partnerships;
    • represent MOSAIC and MCLA as a spokesperson at local and national forums.
  • Embed Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) across arts and culture programming; use MOSAIC as a platform for dialogue and assess campus needs and diverse participation.

  • Job Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in a related field.
  • Excellent understanding of and experience in Arts Management.
  • Ability to work with college academic departments and surrounding cultural communities.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking and success.
  • Budget and planning experience in a cultural organization or small business setting.
  • Grant writing experience with proven success.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum of 7 years of administrative experience; prior experience in managing staff desirable.
