Public Safety Mechanic

Position Overview:

The City of North Adams is seeking a skilled and experienced Public Safety Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all vehicles and equipment for the Police and Fire Departments. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that emergency response vehicles are in top operational condition to support the city's public safety efforts.

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of public safety vehicles, including police cruisers, fire engines, and specialized emergency equipment.
• Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to ensure vehicles are in safe operating condition.
• Conduct preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, brake replacements, tire inspections, and fluid checks.
• Perform emergency and on-site repairs to keep vehicles in service and minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate service records, work logs, and inventory of tools, parts, and equipment.
• Coordinate and oversee outsourced repairs when necessary, ensuring vendors meet city safety and performance standards.
• Stay up to date on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and safety regulations related to emergency vehicle maintenance.
• Assist in ordering and stocking necessary parts and supplies for vehicle maintenance.
• Adhere to all safety standards and protocols when working with hazardous materials and heavy machinery.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Police Chief or Fire Chief.
