Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
Required:
High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. At least four years of experience in basic maintenance activities. An applicant must meet all the qualifications detailed in rules four and five of the Civil Service Rules.
At least five years in private or public construction and/or maintenance activities.
This position is a year-round position. It is 8 hours per day for 5 days per week.
Salary is per contract.
Job Goal:
To maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
Supervision:
Reports to Director of Facilities.
- Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
- Recommends priorities on repair projects.
- Replaces worn or defective wiring, switches, faucets, and plumbing fixtures, and repairs fencing, asphalt, concrete, and ceilings.
- Performs, under supervision, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical work, plumbing, glazing, tiling, and carpentry.
- Plows snow. Snow blows, shovels, mows, weed trim, maintain equipment.
- Assists in maintaining grounds and playing fields. Paints game fields, parking lots.
- Makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
- Consults with Director of Facilities regarding the establishment of regular preventative maintenance programs.
- Performs all duties contained in the Custodian job description.
- Other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Able to tolerate heights and confined spaces. Knowledge of equipment operation. Must be able to comprehend and follow verbal and written instruction appropriate to custodial activities. Must possess more than an ordinary degree of skill in the maintenance of school buildings. An applicant must have demonstrable basic knowledge of the following skills: carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, plumbing, glazing, tiling, carpeting, mathematics, and simple construction techniques.
An applicant must also have demonstrated the ability to work in a cooperative and tactful manner with fellow employees, conduct him/herself at all times in an exemplary manner, follow and obey the directions and orders of his/her immediate supervisor, and be able to utilize all his/her working time in a wise and productive manner. An applicant must be available to respond to emergency situations on a twenty-four hour per day basis
