Job Description & How to Apply Below

North Atlantic Networks (NAN) is seeking a hands-on technology leader to join our team as the Director of Network Security Engineering. In this critical role, you will initially function as a senior technical expert—designing, implementing, and troubleshooting sophisticated network security solutions primarily based on Fortinet security products, enterprise-grade routers, switches, Wi-Fi infrastructure, SD-WAN, and other connectivity solutions. Following a structured 60–90-day ramp-up period, during which you will actively participate as a senior network security engineer, you will transition into a leadership position, assuming full managerial responsibilities from the current interim head of engineering.

Ultimately, you will lead a skilled team of Network Security and Senior Network Security Engineers, fostering technical excellence, operational efficiency, innovation, and superior customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate possesses deep hands-on experience in network security, proven leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to technical mentorship and organizational growth.

Hands-On Technical Leadership (Initial 60-90 Day Ramp-Up Period)

Actively participate in the design, configuration, deployment, and optimization of multi-site, enterprise-class cloud and network security solutions, with a focus on Fortinet technologies (Forti Gate, Forti Switch, FortiAP, Forti Client, Forti Authenticator, Forti Manager, FortiSASE).

Serve as a principal escalation resource, resolving complex technical issues with precision, urgency, and clarity.

Lead complex migrations and security infrastructure projects, ensuring smooth, secure transitions and exceptional client outcomes.

Conduct rigorous testing, validation, documentation, and client training, ensuring successful project handovers.

Leadership and Team Management (Post-Ramp-Up)

Assume leadership of the Engineering department as a member of NAN’s leadership team, directly managing and mentoring a team of Network Security Engineers and Senior Network Security Engineers and begin reporting to the President & COO.

Provide strategic oversight and operational direction, aligning departmental goals with business objectives and industry best practices.

Foster a collaborative and high-performance environment, emphasizing continuous improvement, technical innovation, and proactive security posture.

Establish and maintain a culture of accountability, professional growth, and client-focused solutions delivery.

Occasional after-hours responsibilities and travel required.

Strategic Direction & Innovation

Regularly assess the department’s operational effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement in processes, technology adoption, and customer satisfaction.

Stay current with industry developments, emerging cybersecurity threats, and advancements in network technology, positioning NAN at the forefront of innovation.

Collaborate closely with sales, product, and executive teams to align technical solutions with strategic business priorities, actively participating in pre-sales engagements as needed.

Routine product research, design, and development.

Documentation & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Oversee and ensure the accuracy of detailed technical documentation, including configurations, diagrams, standard operating procedures, and customer-specific network documentation.

Actively partner with Sales and other internal teams to align solutions with customer expectations and business requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

Required

Minimum 6-8 years of progressive, hands-on network security engineering experience, including substantial exposure within MSSP, ISP, enterprise networking, or related environments.

Demonstrated ability in managing technical teams or projects, with at least 3+ years of experience in leadership or management roles in high employee satisfaction environments.

Expert-level hands-on proficiency in Fortinet product suite, including Forti Gate firewalls, Forti Switches, FortiAPs, and complementary technologies such as Forti Client, Forti Authenticator, Forti Manager, and FortiSASE.
