Position Summary
Manages 3-shift operation of the Chemicals department in North Attleboro including supervising production employees for Potassium Gold Cyanide, Silver Cyanide salts, Wet blending solutions, and Dry Blending. Coordinate material flow through production departments and to wastewater operations. Follow all safety and environmental policies and procedures, using personal protection equipment as required, while producing product to established processes and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Work with technical personnel to ensure safety and assist in process improvements.
- Monitor and requisition supplies for all production, and raw materials needed for bulk chemical production, ensuring sufficient lead-time for incoming inspection and evaluation.
- Understand and meet department budget targets.
- Develop and communicate weekly production schedule and responsibilities across shifts.
- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate the activities of various departments (order fulfillment, laboratory testing, waste water processing).
- Analyze and resolve work problems and/or assist workers to solve work-related problems.
- Ensure the department is following proper SOP’s, adhering to safety and quality standards, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform activities of workers supervised as required during vacation or absence.
- Monitor production equipment status and write maintenance work orders as needed.
- Coordinate with the chemical department engineer to collect and analyze data and complete engineering projects.
- Understand and follow policies and procedures of the Quality Management system. Ensure that operating procedures are up-to-date and available to employees and that appropriate corrective and preventative actions are taken.
- Work with technical personnel to set up and revise instructions for wet blending operations transferred to the North Attleboro site.
- Perform other duties as directed or required.
- Ability to safely carry out chemical processes involving precious metals.
- Excellent written, verbal and English communication skills.
- Strong safety mindset with basic chemistry knowledge.
- Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets.
- Ability to understand technical documents, and recommend revisions to work instructions, and process sheets, as needed.
- Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office, SAP, and databases.
- Ability to supervise, effectively train and appropriately discipline employees.
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding personnel and their work activities.
- Ability to communicate across business units and across department managers.
- Math skill to calculate various quantities and factors necessary to ensure consistent production.
A chemistry degree is preferred, but not required if individual has had at least ten years experience in a related field. Chemical and/or metals training. Training in safe chemical handling is required.
ExperienceAt least ten years experience supervising in a similar processing facility.
Experience in training operators in similar operations. Experience in chemical processes and equipment. Experience with engineering projects a plus.
