Trolley Driver – Sanitation Department
Under regular supervision, performs routine manual labor for the Sanitation department to include, but not limited to, collecting and loading garbage, recyclables, and yard debris onto collection trucks. Helps maintain trucks and equipment used to perform job, and operates various city‑owned trucks to pick up and haul trash and debris on assigned routes. Reports to the Sanitation Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Operate city‑owned trucks and equipment, including trolleys, front‑loading garbage trucks, automated residential garbage trucks, rear‑loader trucks, side loaders, shuttle trucks, knuckle boom trucks, trailers, pickup trucks, street sweepers, and other machinery.
- Collect and load garbage, recyclables, and yard debris onto collection trucks.
- Maintain trucks and equipment, performing daily inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Keep streets swept and cleaned; monitor containers before and after collection to control debris and ensure safe transport.
- Ensure all service points on routes are picked up in a timely manner.
- Complete and submit daily vehicle maintenance, mileage, and other required reports.
- Attend staff and safety meetings and review information such as daily work assignments, safety classes, work orders, and standard operating procedures.
- Generate documents including daily vehicle inspection sheets and street‑sweeping logs.
- Assist other divisions and departments with vehicle operations as assigned.
- Transport workers to and from work sites as requested.
- Assist with recycling center operations as assigned.
- Follow all city policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- One to two years of experience in sanitation or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds routinely and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to comply with safety training and use personal protective equipment as required.
Adhere to established safety policies, procedures, and practices. Follow all safety training, use the required personal protective equipment, and immediately report any unsafe work practices or conditions, including on‑the‑job injuries or illnesses.
