The Role

Cable Tech is a self‑motivated technician that takes responsibility for plant and customer needs. Will be required to be proactive for maintenance, and agile to changes and damages. Must have a strong ability to build relationships with customers and have strong communications skills.

Location and Schedule

This is a full time position located in North Bend, Wa. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. May include nights weekends, holidays, and on call rotation. May be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Maintains, repairs, and tests copper cable and/or fiber optic cable in an underground, aerial, or buried environment, maintains, expands, replaces, and repairs all plant facilities and subscriber apparatus required to provide service to customers. Troubleshoots problems that will require cable repair, cable maintenance, air pressure, splicing, fault‑finding, etc.
  • Make splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial and building work locations. Uses heavy‑duty power equipment (e.g., compressors, pumps, blowers), hand tools, power tools (air and electric), and specialty tools, including electric and electronic measuring devices (e.g., multi‑meters, volt‑ohm meters), in the construction and repair of outside plant facilities.
  • Perform testing and turn‑up of subscriber lines, carrier plant, and/or fiber optic plant.
  • Locate and repair air leaks in aerial, underground, and/or buried cable, locate, join, repair, and rearrange cable and cable conductors in buildings and aerial or buried plant.
  • Initiate or perform cable cuts, transfer projects, and/or load‑balance cuts, and issue necessary cuts to prevent blocking.
  • Install, maintain/repair, and test residential/small business telecommunication service (POTS and DSL).
  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach/detach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, and poles.
  • Perform continuity and/or conformance testing, work with telecom color‑coded wires and cables.
  • Read and interpret customer service orders, technical (i.e., mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Receive service orders, worksheets, detailed diagrams describing the nature and location of equipment to be installed or repaired, and repair tickets from supervisor or other designated employees and perform specified work.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record. May require CDL and DOT certification
  • Must have basic AC/DC knowledge.
  • Must have basic knowledge of subscriber carrier.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the efficient operation of test equipment used to verify cable faults.
  • Must have a basic ability to read cable plats and schematics.
  • Must know the telephone industry‑standard color code and can splice aerial, buried and underground cable.
  • Must have the physical ability to climb utility poles using pole climbers. May require pole climbing certification.
  • Will climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
  • When working aloft with ladders or other equipment with weight‑capacity ratings, employees must adhere to the Company safety policy and equipment weight requirements.
  • May work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a plant technician.
