The RF Drive Test Engineer will support field-based RF data collection, network validation, and performance analysis for major telecom operators. This role is essential to identifying network issues, validating optimization changes, and ensuring high-quality customer experience across wireless networks.
DetailedJob Description
As an RF Drive Test Engineer, you will conduct extensive drive testing using X-CAL or equivalent RF tools, collecting real-world performance data across live wireless networks. You will analyze KPIs, identify coverage or quality issues, and support optimization teams with actionable insights to fine-tune network performance. The position requires strong field discipline, equipment readiness, and precise execution within scheduled test windows.
You will work closely with RF engineers and network optimization teams to validate tuning changes, report network anomalies, and ensure data accuracy during all test cycles.
- Perform RF drive testing to capture and log mobile network performance data.
- Operate X-CAL or similar tools for RF data collection, measurement, and analysis.
- Identify, document, and report issues such as coverage gaps, interference, and handover failures.
- Collaborate with optimization engineers to validate tuning actions and parameter changes.
- Prepare drive test equipment, ensure accuracy, and maintain readiness before the assigned pass window.
- Follow structured methodologies and maintain punctuality for all scheduled testing activities.
- Provide test logs, preliminary findings, and clear reporting to technical teams.
- Hands-on experience with RF drive testing tools (X-CAL, TEMS, Nemo, etc.).
- Strong understanding of wireless network KPIs and RF fundamentals.
- Experience identifying RF issues (interference, coverage gaps, call drops, HO failures).
- Valid and clean driving license (mandatory).
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work in the field, independently and under tight timelines.
- Experience working with major US telecom operators.
- Knowledge of optimization workflows or post-processing tools.
- Familiarity with map-based analysis and PCI/RSRP/RSRQ interpretation.
- Experience with multi-technology testing (4G/5G).
Highlight your hands‑on expertise with X-CAL (or equivalent tools) and include recent drive test project examples—showing measurable impact on network improvements significantly increases your chances of being shortlisted for RF field engineering roles.
