Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD‑OTS), a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for an Aerodynamics Engineer Intern to join the Munitions Business Unit (BU) Engineer team at our Bothell, WA site. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associated with our core mission.

Key Skills

Experience exercising Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applications, such as STAR‑CCM+, for aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic characterization.

Major Position Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate required skills, enthusiasm and interest in engineering aspects, and ability to work with various internal and external customers to achieve assigned tasks.
  • Undertake, initially, a range of administrative and support tasks for the Munitions Engineering department.
  • Apply basic engineering skills in a highly active environment.
  • Progressively take on tasks of increasing complexity appropriate to education and skill level.
  • Provide the department with an opportunity to assess suitability for potential future position.
  • Familiarity with CAD or CAE applications, such as CREO, to create and/or modify part and assembly level geometry.
  • Exercise CFD applications, such as STAR‑CCM+, for aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic characterization.
  • Utilize lower‑order aerodynamic predictive tools such as Missile Datcom for aerodynamic characterization.
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing and aerodynamic database development.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in the completion of specific assignments, preparing data for analysis by experienced engineers.
  • Conduct engineering analysis of simple problems relating to the overall design of gas generation systems requiring limited application of standard principles.
  • Perform trade studies and parametric analyses.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Use general purpose modeling codes such as MATLAB and Simulink.
Basic Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled majoring in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical or similar) or within 6 months of graduation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a diverse employee population.
  • Demonstrate organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment, using discretion and independent judgment.
  • Responsive to customer needs and demonstrates persistence in overcoming obstacles with a sense of urgency.
  • Work within the highest level of integrity and safety.
  • Work under limited supervision.

Salary

$23.58 – $28.17 USD

The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum for salary for this position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training. The recruiter can share more about the range during the hiring process.
