Position OverviewThe Actuarial Consultant will support our national actuarial practice, reporting to the National Director of Underwriting and Actuarial Services. The role involves leading or supporting actuarial work for a portfolio of employee‑benefits clients, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with specialty teams to deliver client solutions.
Responsibilities- Act as client lead for small and mid‑market clients and provide support to large clients.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure high‑quality, timely deliverables for clients.
- Support the National Director and Senior Actuary with actuarial direction, strategic guidance, and enterprise‑wide financial reporting, including development of financial templates, calculators, and models.
- Execute projects such as experience reports, budget projections, and reserve setting.
- Work on ad hoc projects requiring data analysis within Excel and HUB’s data warehouse.
- Update, build, and review tools and templates.
- Collaborate with Clinical, Pharmacy, and Health & Performance teams on cost‑containment analyses and strategies.
- Analyze benefits plans, funding mechanisms, and vendor partners to help clients achieve their goals.
- Act as a strategic advisor/SME to clients and internal stakeholders on actuarial and financial consulting needs.
- Represent HUB to prospective and current clients.
- Work on special projects and continue to build technical skills.
- Support junior colleague development through peer review and mentorship.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) certification.
- Ability to sign actuarial certifications and hold Member of the American Academy of Actuaries credentials.
- 5+ years of employee benefits consulting experience.
- Experience with mid‑market, upper mid‑market, and jumbo clients preferred.
- Knowledge of various U.S. markets preferred.
- Exposure to industries such as education, healthcare, and public sector preferred.
- Proficiency with Excel, VBA, Power Query, Power BI, SQL, and/or other technical tools.
- Experience with self‑funded clients, including projecting budgets, setting reserves, and negotiating renewals.
- Strong critical‑thinking skills and ability to manipulate and analyze data.
- Passion for leading and developing others.
- Excellent communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Experience leading client teams, projects, and delivering client presentations.
- Comfortable running standard and ad‑hoc reports in a data warehouse environment.
- Obtain a Life & Health Insurance license within the first 3 months of employment.
- Travel: negligible.
Expected salary range: $110,000 to $120,000. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, FSA, HSA, 401(k), paid‑time‑off, and potential bonuses for eligible positions.
