Job Summary:
The District Security & Emergency Preparedness Specialist position is responsible for implementing and leading the district’s safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs across all school sites. The position serves as the district’s lead for emergency preparedness planning, training, and compliance, while also providing direct security response and operational support to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Emergency Preparedness — Lead Responsibilities- Develops, assesses, and maintains emergency preparedness plans, procedures, and protocols for all district sites, including emergency reunification, lockdown, shelter‑in‑place, fire, and earthquake response.
- Serves as the District lead for mandated emergency drills; tracks and reports implementation, creates post‑drill protocols for building coordinators, and identifies sites needing additional training and support.
- Establishes and maintains district‑wide minimum standards for emergency preparedness training and aligns resources to district safety goals.
- Administers surveys and assessments to evaluate the current level of emergency preparedness readiness across the district and communicates findings and recommended actions to building administrators.
- Manages Crisis Response Box readiness; establishes baseline equipment inventory standards per site, assists sites with inventory documentation, and maintains schedules for inventory refresh.
- Monitors and assesses the viability of emergency storage containers and supplies across all sites.
- Works with community partners, including local emergency management agencies, to ensure equitable emergency preparedness resources across district sites.
- Provides and coordinates emergency preparedness and safety training for district personnel and building sites.
- Responds to calls from school administration regarding safety and security concerns; provides direct assistance to assigned schools for security‑related issues, or dispatches appropriate staff.
- Works collaboratively with local law enforcement and fire services to ensure the safety of campuses, students, and staff.
- Conducts proactive and requested security patrols; confronts trespassers as necessary and assists law enforcement in identifying individuals committing or suspected of committing crimes on or near school property.
- Assists school administrators with interviews of non‑students to gather information on potential problems or district policy violations; supports enforcement of district rules and regulations.
- Operates video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, and fire alarm systems; responds to alarms and performs testing and troubleshooting of safety systems.
- Provides direction to staff and students during critical incidents or changes in building status (e.g., lockdown, safe inside).
- Creates and maintains security reports, including a daily log of incidents and alarms; collects and logs evidence; supports schools in completing incident reports.
- Assists with building, playground, and workplace safety inspections to identify and mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
- Conducts disposal of hazardous materials; maintains records of hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
