Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) is one of four Lockheed Martin business areas. The Laser and Sensor Systems (L&SS) market within RMS develops high‑power laser weapons systems for the defense industry. This market segment focuses on developing and fielding cutting‑edge technology with our service partners. L&SS is looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software and firmware engineers in this portfolio.

• Ensuring the organization's staff is meeting all program and business commitments and working with the Program Leadership team to drive Program Execution.
• Working with cross‑BA business partners to set up and coordinate portfolio vision for SW products.
• Managing the staffing and resource allocation within the software domain, including recruiting and hiring candidates.
• Conducting performance evaluations, promotions, and career planning activities.
• Maintaining/updating Software Development Plans and Software SOPs. Ensuring that the Software team understands and follows plans and procedures.
• Guiding/mentoring the team on how to conduct business with customers, defining processes, and improving when needed with a continuous process improvement mindset.
• Gathering, analyzing, and using software and EVM metrics in waterfall, agile, and hybrid program executions.
• Creating SW development schedules in coordination with project engineers and ensuring the team executes to the schedule.
• Cultivating and growing the Software Organization.
• Interfacing with Program Management, CAMs, Project Engineers, other discipline leaders, and customers over priorities, milestones and deliveries.
• Preparing Software Estimating through BOEs.
• Inserting Digital Transformation initiatives into software development execution (Dev Sec Ops , Software Factory, Agile, Automated Test, AI).

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of direct software development and testing experience.
• Experience with planning and coordinating software development in a team‑oriented environment.
• Experience leading software teams working in various SW languages/skill sets.
• Experience with developing software architecture for hardware applications.
• Experience with integrating and testing software on hardware.
• Experience with embedded software and firmware.
• Knowledgeable of software engineering processes and tools.
• Experience across the software development life cycle from requirements through integration and test.
• Experience with software estimating tools, metrics identification and collection.
• Familiarity with Linux & Unix operating systems.
• Ability to obtain & maintain a U.S. DoD Security clearance at the SECRET level.

• MS or PhD in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
• Prior experience as a software engineering manager or software team lead in charge of at least 10 engineers.
• Experience in defining SW organizations on large‑scale defense programs.
• Formal training and experience in defining software architecture.
• Experience in developing and maintaining Software Development Plans (SDP).
• Understand Software Metrics (SLOC, Defects, Productivity) – gathering, analyzing, and using.
