Shift & Compensation

The plant operator is expected to work a 40-hour work week and occasional overtime. This is a second shift position operating from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Compensation: $23.00 - $36.00 per hour, with a $2.25/hr shift premium. The base salary is a range and may vary based on experience, certification, market conditions, and location. Eligible for a bonus.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Colostrum Operations Manager, the Plant Operator will manufacture the organization’s products according to established production specifications and schedules while meeting volume, cost, and quality targets. The role involves operating, maintaining, repairing, and managing plant equipment under close supervision, improving processes, and ensuring safety.

Essential Functions
  • Control, operate, and maintain the automated production machinery that blends, mixes, processes, dries, fills, and packages products.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including reactors, dryers, blending, bagging, and material handling equipment.
  • Drive changes in safety and working conditions to increase efficiency.
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with company policies, procedures, work instructions, and training.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on production equipment.
  • Handle, lift, and transport product and operate miscellaneous equipment.
  • Perform shipping, receiving, and other warehousing tasks.
  • Collect sampling data and operate processes per production, regulatory, and feed safety requirements.
  • Identify and segregate nonconforming raw materials, in‑process, and finished products.
  • Identify and implement improvement measures for production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Receive work direction/work orders from management and complete job assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a production environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic computer skills (PC) and working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective communication with coworkers and management.
Preferred
  • Post‑secondary education.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a related production environment or industry such as chemical, feed, paper, ethanol, or dairy manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance‑related tasks.
  • Boiler operation experience.
  • Experience with CMMS or inventory management systems such as ERP.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9000 Quality Systems, GMP, or Lean Manufacturing methods.
Work Environment
  • Works near guarded moving mechanical equipment and may handle toxic or hazardous chemicals.
  • Frequently exposed to heights, confined spaces, and hot and cold conditions.
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
