Maintenance Technician - 2nd Shift

The Extrusion Maintenance Technician Level II is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of extrusion equipment and supporting systems. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production goals through proactive and corrective maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities include performing preventive and predictive maintenance on extrusion lines and auxiliary equipment, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, diagnosing equipment failures and implementing corrective actions, replacing and aligning components such as screws, barrels, gearboxes, heaters, motors, and sensors, assisting with die changes, calibrations, and setup support, identifying root causes of equipment failures and recurring issues, reading and interpreting electrical schematics and mechanical drawings, performing basic PLC diagnostics including input/output checks, participating in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives, recommending improvements to increase uptime and efficiency, supporting 5S and TPM initiatives, following all safety procedures including LOTO, ensuring repairs meet OSHA and company standards, maintaining clean and organized work areas, documenting maintenance work and downtime in CMMS, communicating shift status to team members, working with production, supervisors, and engineering, providing support during startups and shutdowns, and training Level I technicians on basic maintenance tasks.

Education and experience required include a high school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred, 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in extrusion, knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics, basic PLC troubleshooting experience, ability to use diagnostic and precision tools, extrusion equipment including screws, dies, and downstream equipment, heating/cooling systems and tooling maintenance, strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, good communication and teamwork, attention to detail and time management, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and climbing, working in heat, noise, and industrial conditions, manufacturing plant setting, may require overtime and shift work, independently troubleshooting most issues, handling moderately complex repairs without supervision, mentoring junior technicians, and participating in improvement initiatives.
