Service Center Support job at Fed Ex Freight. North Canton, OH.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for handling the needs of customers, processing documentation that accompanies the movement of freight, and performing other administrative and customer service duties as necessary in the daily operation of the service center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain files, copy, image, and print documents; answer phones; perform data entry; sort and distribute mail and/or packages.
  • Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
  • Provide accurate information and assistance to customers, including determining pick‑up and/or delivery needs, resolving problems, updating systems for special handling, selling company services, and generating potential leads to sales.
  • Enter freight shipment information into the computer system to accurately status shipments, generate freight bills, and correct billing errors.
  • Administer freight pick‑up process as required.
  • Assist customers via phone, e‑mail, and/or fax with all inquiries, such as tracing shipments, rate quotes, tariff discrepancies, and billing or invoicing questions.
  • Make freight delivery appointments as required.
  • Review drivers’ Hours‑of‑Service logs for accuracy; report discrepancies to leadership.
  • Assist city operations: check‑in drivers, process related documentation, coordinate drop‑offs, and manage driver collections.
  • Communicate with sales, operations, and other service centers or departments to ensure customer needs are met and issues are resolved.
  • Reconcile cash and checks collected; prepare deposits and COD check remittances to customers as required.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of general office experience preferred.
  • One year of customer service experience preferred.
  • Previous transportation experience preferred.
  • Strong phone and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math skills, with or without a calculator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the various Fed Ex service products to determine customer needs.
  • Ability to use general office equipment (computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc.).
  • Typing/data entry skills.
  • Ten‑key skills preferred.
  • PC experience with ability to learn required computer systems/programs.
  • Demonstrated time‑management, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Follow instructions and complete required training.
  • Work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Work in a fast‑paced team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Office/dock environment.
  • Fast‑paced; deadline‑oriented.
  • Hours may vary due to operational needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Shift Time: 1200 – 2000.
  • Starting Rate of Pay: $22.67 / hour.
