Position Summary
Assist the Head Coach in all facets of the program including planning, coaching, and recruiting. Responsible for coordinating onside of the field as well as two specialty positions. Work performed under the general supervision of the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the head coach in managing and directing the program.
- Educate and mentor student‑athletes in all aspects of their holistic development; mind, body, and spirit.
- Assist the head coach with all aspects of the program including training, competing and scheduling.
- Assist in the coordination of travel arrangements.
- Assist in completion and processing of paperwork as requested.
- Assist with recruiting, including contacting prospective student‑athletes, evaluating high school and junior college players, and maintaining accurate records and databases on the NCAA Compliance Assistant program.
- Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attend department meetings and activities, and represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, coaches, media, and the general public.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA II rules and educate student‑athletes about those rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Vice President/Director of Athletics.
Failure to comply with NCAA II rules will be grounds for discipline and/or termination.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Must demonstrate an understanding of the Walsh University Statement of Faith and a commitment to support the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. - Work Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in the sport of Men’s College Lacrosse, including playing and/or coaching; other significant experience related to coaching and/or the administration of an intercollegiate athletics program may be considered. - Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
- Ability to instruct and supervise student‑athletes.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications;
Word, Excel, Outlook.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, indoor and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly;
physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. Must be able to handle and communicate over loud noises in gymnasium; whistles, crowd noise; yelling and screaming.
