Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling & Machining
Location:
North Canton, OH
Pay: $90-115k DOE
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize and support production of precision parts and tooling. The role focuses on fixture and tool design, process development for turning, milling, surface grinding and die work, and ensuring efficient use of raw materials while meeting geometric tolerance and quality targets. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with production, quality, and design teams to improve yields, reduce cycle times, and implement robust manufacturing processes using CAD/AutoCAD and practical shop-floor experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop fixtures, jigs, and tooling to support assembly and machining operations, ensuring repeatability and ease of use on the shop floor.
- Create and revise tooling and die designs (Tool and Die) and support tool fabrication activities, including vendor coordination and cost analysis.
- Develop, document, and optimize production processes for turning, milling, and surface grinding operations to achieve target cycle times and part quality.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to drawings and work with engineering and QC to ensure parts meet specified tolerances.
- Use AutoCAD and CAD software to produce and review manufacturing drawings, tooling layouts, and work instructions.
- Select and validate raw materials, evaluate material behaviors in machining processes, and work with procurement to ensure cost-effective sourcing.
- Implement process controls, transfer new products to manufacturing, and create first-article inspections and process capability studies (CPK).
- Troubleshoot production issues on the floor, perform root-cause analysis, and lead corrective and preventive actions to reduce scrap and rework.
- Collaborate with maintenance to specify and prioritize machine upgrades, fixtures, and tooling maintenance to improve uptime.
- Train production and setup personnel on new processes, tooling changes, and best practices for machining and inspection.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering with emphasis on tooling, machining, and production process development.
- Proven experience in fixture design and tool & die work, including hands-on exposure to tool fabrication.
- Strong machining knowledge: turning (CNC/CNC lathe), milling, and surface grinding processes.
- Proficiency with CAD software.
- Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection principles.
- Familiarity with raw material selection and how material properties affect machining and tooling life.
Benefits:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off
- 401k with company match
- Tuition reimbursement
