Part Time Bakery Clerk

About the Role

Proof and bake unfinished bakery goods, inspect and store bakery shipments, and maintain hygiene and safety standards in the bakery department of BJ’s Wholesale Club.

• Proofs and bakes all unfinished bakery goods using ovens and other equipment following product handling information.
• Unpacks bakery goods from the freezer and displays proper amounts based on production charts.
• Maintains all cleaning and safety standards within the bakery department.
• Assists with club policies, procedures, and compliance, ensuring a safe and positive environment for members and team members.
• Provides exceptional member service, resolving and deescalating concerns and following GOLD Member Standards.

• Answers questions and recommends bakery items to members.
• Packages freshly baked goods, including cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, cakes, and other items as needed.
• Decorates special order or case product and rotates products following food safety and freshness policies.
• Generates labels and price tickets for bakery goods and performs price check functions when necessary.
• Inspects and stores bakery shipments, checking for out‑of‑date products and following salvage and stale product policies.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces in the bakery, including ovens, cooking utensils, refrigerated cases, display racks, and tables.
• Operates bakery equipment using proper work methods in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed.
• Maintains regular, predictable, full attendance.

• Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred.
• Knowledge of bakery products preferred.
• At least 18 years of age.

Most of the time is spent moving about non‑hard surfaces; may require bending, pulling, reaching, pushing, and/or stooping. Frequently requires lifting objects up to 30 pounds and occasionally heavier objects with assistance. Work is in a comfortable indoor environment with exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers, and frequent exposure to cleaning agents.
