Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Lowboy Truck Driver to join our team. The primary responsibility is to safely load, secure, and transport heavy construction machinery (dozers, excavators, loaders, rollers) and oversized equipment to and from job sites. This position requires a skilled operator who can navigate complex routes, manage load securement, and adhere strictly to DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Safe Operation: Safely drive a tractor-lowboy trailer combination through varying traffic, weather, and road conditions.
- Load & Unload: Drive and load heavy construction/paving equipment onto the trailer, using winches and hydraulic systems.
- Cargo Securement: Properly secure loads using chains, binders, and straps in compliance with FMCSA cargo securement rules.
- Inspections: Perform daily pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure safety and DOT compliance.
- Route Planning: Ability to read and understand permit routes and provisions for oversized/overweight loads.
- Maintenance: Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment, reporting mechanical malfunctions to supervisors.
- Teamwork: Coordinate with dispatchers and site managers to deliver equipment on time.
- License: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience operating lowboy or heavy haul trailers.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, oversized load permits, and safety standards.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift at least 50–75 lbs frequently and perform manual labor, including bending, kneeling, and crawling to secure loads.
- Medical: Must pass a DOT physical and drug/alcohol screen.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with 4-axle+ trailers or specialized heavy haul.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- OSHA safety training.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme heat.
- Exposure to high levels of noise, grease, and dust on construction sites.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including early mornings or weekends as required.
- Based on experience ranging from $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
