Accounting Analyst (Cash Operations) - #002232
The primary location of this position is on‑site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA). The role is responsible for supporting a broad range of accounting and operational functions within the Controller’s Office. It ensures the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, including cash disbursements, journal entries, and related accounting activities, in accordance with university policies, state regulations, and established internal controls.
The position is responsible for performing account reconciliations, preparing and reporting North Carolina Sales and Use Tax, maintaining financial records and documentation, and supporting the integrity of financial data across systems. It also contributes to financial reporting and analysis, assists with system enhancements and process improvements, and supports the implementation of automated solutions related to financial operations.
The position regularly collaborates with campus departments and external stakeholders to address inquiries, resolve transaction issues, and provide guidance on financial procedures, ensuring consistent, compliant, and efficient business practices.
Responsibilities- Process cash disbursements, journal entries and other financial transactions accurately and timely.
- Reconcile accounts and maintain supporting documentation.
- Prepare and report North Carolina Sales and Use Tax.
- Maintain financial records and ensure data integrity across systems.
- Assist with system enhancements, process improvements, and automated solutions related to financial operations.
- Provide guidance and support to campus departments and external stakeholders on financial procedures.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, state regulations, and internal controls.
- Knowledge of standard financial operations, including cash disbursements, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial record keeping in a structured environment.
- Understanding of applicable state, institutional, and audit requirements, including internal controls and reporting obligations related to financial transactions (e.g., sales and use tax).
- Ability to review, reconcile, and analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and support timely resolution of transactional issues.
- Ability to effectively utilize financial and reporting systems (e.g., Banner or similar ERP systems), as well as document management and workflow tools, to support accurate and efficient operations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, provide guidance on financial processes, and resolve inquiries in a timely and collaborative manner.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States of America without the need for employer sponsorship or any other immigration‑related assistance.
- Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in financial operations, accounting, or a related area. Degree must be from an accredited institution.
- Relevant experience in cash operations or related accounting functions.
- Familiarity with university financial systems such as Banner.
- Knowledge of North Carolina Sales and Use Tax regulations.
