As a Staff Accountant at Crossnore Communities for Children, you ll play an essential role in supporting an organization dedicated to helping children and families heal, grow, and thrive. By ensuring accurate financial records, reporting, compliance, and sound accounting practices, you ll help safeguard the resources that make our mission possible. This role supports day-to-day accounting operations, including general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, payroll support, audit preparation, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
We re looking for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who enjoys collaborating with others, solving problems, and continuously improving processes.
Education/Experience
Avery, NC. This is an office-based position with a typical first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, and occasional evening or weekend hours depending on department needs. Occasional travel to other Crossnore locations and regional meeting is required.
Hiring Range$55,000 - $67,000 annually

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3+ years of accounting or finance experience required.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll processing, and month-end close preferred.
- Active CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
- Experience in nonprofit and fund accounting principles preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, and audit support.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and FASB standards preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software, payroll systems, HRIS platforms, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Valid driver s license and willingness to travel between agency locations.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform account reconciliations and analyze financial activity.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close.
- Maintain fixed asset records.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
- Support payroll processing and payroll tax reporting.
- Prepare audit schedules and documentation.
- Research accounting issues and recommend solutions.
- Help improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Partner with departments across the organization to provide responsive financial support.
