Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 annually

Matlock's Used Parts is looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting. You'll manage the day-to-day accounting activities, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintain strong internal controls that support good decision-making across the business. Working closely with the CFO and leadership team, you'll play a key role in improving financial processes, strengthening reporting capabilities, and supporting the company's continued growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strategic thinking, but also a willingness to get into the transactional details when the work calls for it.

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules

• Own inventory accounting, including valuation methodology
• Manage cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting and margin analysis in coordination with operations
• Supervise and develop accounting personnel, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, including team members located internationally
• Establish clear processes, expectations, and performance standards
• Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

• Develop and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency, including evaluation and implementation of accounting/ERP system improvements
• Support documentation of key accounting processes and procedures

• Monitor cash balances and short-term cash flow forecasts
• Oversee accounts receivable collections and accounts payable processes

• Support the CFO in budgeting and forecasting activities
• Assist the CFO with KPI development and reporting

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements
• Maintain business personal property filings and other regulatory filings as needed

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or accounting-supervisor role
• Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
• Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting processes
• Proficiency with Quick Books
• Advanced Excel skills
• Proven ability to lead and develop staff
• Must pass pre-employment background check

• CPA preferred, not required
• Experience evaluating or implementing ERP/accounting system upgrades
• Experience managing a distributed or international accounting team
• Background in a manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive industry
