Part-Time Library Assistant (Saturdays) – Public Library Department Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent; some college preferred; library experience preferred; computer skills essential; valid North Carolina driver license required.
RequirementsHoke County seeks an individual with excellent critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal abilities, as well as effective written and oral communication skills. Computer proficiency is essential, including accurate keyboarding ability, familiarity with Internet searching, and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. The applicant must also be able to use other office equipment such as multi‑line telephones, fax machines, copiers, printers, etc., and pass a criminal history background check.
Physical Requirements- Applicants must be able to push a cartload of books weighing approximately 100 pounds.
- Be able to manipulate stacks of books and other materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to extend arms overhead to place a book weighing approximately 15 pounds on the shelf.
- Be able to stand for extended periods of time ranging from 2 hours to as many as 8 hours, 5 days a week.
- Be able to lift large cumbersome objects with ease; bend and pick up books and other objects off the floor on an irregular basis.
- Assist with new patron cards and special book displays and collections.
- Perform circulation desk tasks such as registering new customers, checking in and checking out books and other materials, collecting fees and fines, and scheduling use of meeting rooms and stage.
- Help customers locate materials; instruct and assist customers with the use of various computer tasks & programs (including, but not limited to: catalog searches, internet searches, word processing and printing).
- Enter bibliographic and patron data on the computer; shelve books & other materials and maintain shelved collections; answer reference questions in person and on the phone; assist with library programming for promotion and outreach; and other duties as assigned.
