Utility Billing Specialist
Wilson County Government is seeking a Utility Billing Specialist for the Utilities Department. The position is non-exempt and offers a salary range of $37,824.00 to $63,924.00 annually. The job description includes intermediate technical and administrative support work receiving, processing, recording, and accounting for utility revenues, processing customer service requests and billings, preparing and maintaining computerized records system, preparing and maintaining files and records, and does related work as required.
Specific duties and responsibilities include assisting customers with utility bill questions, responding to routine inquiries and/or complaints, making adjustments where appropriate, receiving, receipts and posting payments, setting up utility accounts, preparing customer accounts for meter readings, preparing file folders and files utility customer information, entering meter readings and other data into computer system, analyzing meter readings for accuracy, preparing and mailing utility bills, maintaining information for service changes and requests, counting and balancing cash drawer, preparing records and deposit information, performing various office assistance tasks as required, typing correspondence, assisting with processing certified letters or mailings, preparing and disseminating various reports, receiving and processing incoming and outgoing mail, reviewing, sorting and stuffing bills to ensure proper mailing, ordering and maintaining inventory of office supplies, and performing other related work as required.
Minimum education and experience required include a high school diploma or GED and minimal experience in customer service, collections or billing operations involving heavy public contact, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical requirements include the ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers, facsimile machines, calculators, two-way radios, tape recorders, blue-line copiers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work usually requires sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, interpersonal temperament, and physical communication are also required.
