About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands‑on safety professional to join our highway grading and paving division as an Assistant Manager, Safety & Health. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about building safe, healthy work environments and who thrives working directly with teams in the field.
The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-driven, and committed to fostering a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Safety Program Development & Implementation – Support the evaluation, planning, and execution of comprehensive safety and health management programs tailored to highway grading and paving.
- Training & Development – Assist with creating, scheduling, and delivering engaging training programs that ensure all employees are confident in safety protocols and best practices.
- Risk Identification & Hazard Assessment – Conduct regular inspections of job sites and facilities, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Compliance Monitoring – Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, local/state safety standards, and internal policies while staying current on industry best practices.
- Incident Reporting & Investigation – Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
- Employee Engagement & Culture – Actively promote a culture of safety by engaging with teams, encouraging hazard reporting, and empowering employees to take ownership of safe work practices.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards, particularly in grading and paving environments.
- Hands‑on leader with the ability to train, coach, and influence teams at all levels.
- Skilled in developing safety training programs and presenting material in an engaging way.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (B.A. or B.S.).
- Minimum of 5 years of industry‑related or safety experience required.
- Background in construction or outdoor manufacturing environments is a plus.
- Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License (required).
- Ability to obtain:
- OSHA 30 Construction Certification
- First Aid/CPR Certification
