Position Overview

As a Special Inspections Technician II (SIT II) for Bunnell-Lammons Engineering, Inc. (BLE), you will work under the immediate supervision/direction of a registered professional engineer. You will work as a team member alongside site managers and engineers to perform the required inspection or sampling services. Special Inspections Technicians play a critical role in the quality assurance for every construction project no matter how large or small.

They actively collect concrete, soil, and other site materials for testing along with continuous monitoring of general contractor activities, which may include but are not limited to onsite testing and reporting of earthwork and soil construction, foundation/subgrade evaluation, reinforcing steel, concrete placements, masonry as well as asphalt testing. They are also responsible for accurately preparing daily reports for submission to the assigned project engineer.

These reports not only include test results summary, but detailed construction site observations as well.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection or sampling services under the supervision of a professional engineer.
  • Collect concrete, soil, and other site materials for testing.
  • Monitor general contractor activities including earthwork, soil construction, foundation/subgrade evaluation, reinforcing steel, concrete placements, masonry and asphalt testing.
  • Prepare daily reports for submission to the assigned project engineer, including test results summary and site observations.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED).
  • 2-5 years of experience demonstrating knowledge of construction materials testing services. OR more than 5 years’ experience in lieu of certifications and exhibits skills appropriate for this technician level.
  • Must have the following two active certifications: ACI-1 Concrete and ICC Soils (or SCDOT/NCDOT Earthwork).
  • Ability to obtain and/or recertify for one of the following certifications within three months of employment: ICC Reinforced Concrete or ICC Masonry, plus one additional industry certification (e.g., fireproofing) based on manager discretion.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean motor vehicle driving history (3 years).
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, lift (70-85 pounds), tug and pull full wheelbarrow of concrete on unstable, unpaved ground.
  • Ability to work outdoors on a construction site in all seasons and weather conditions for extended periods, including early AM concrete placements.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently while completing scheduled tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with team members, BLE leadership, clients, and local, state, and federal authorities.
  • Detail‑oriented and time‑conscious in completing tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of smartphones and computers for communication and record keeping (MS Office applications Word, Excel, and Outlook).
