Assistant Superintendent
The Assistant Superintendent supports the day-to-day field operations of commercial construction projects while continuing to develop technical and leadership skills. This role demonstrates a solid understanding of common construction practices, strong attention to cost control and schedule adherence, and the ability to complete assigned administrative tasks with minimal supervision.
Time is divided between hands-on field work and learning the fundamentals of managing commercial construction projects, with a focus on safety, quality, and team coordination.
• Perform skilled construction work across multiple trades to support daily field operations and project progress
• Assist with daily planning and coordination of subcontractor activities for workflow, site logistics, and schedule milestones
• Support the Superintendent with short-interval planning (look-ahead planning, task sequencing, crew coordination)
• Assist with the coordination of material deliveries and staging to prevent delays or congestion
• Support jobsite safety compliance by monitoring OSHA requirements and Speedwell Safety Standards, correcting hazards, and reporting concerns
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite, including the construction office, storage areas, and work zones
• Assist in maintaining quality standards by monitoring workmanship across all phases of construction
• Participate in plan and specification reviews to identify scope requirements, coordination needs, and information for on-time project completion
• Help verify that required permits, inspections, and approvals are in place before work begins
• Assist the Superintendent with owner, architect, and inspector interactions during site visits and meetings
• Support punch list creation, tracking, and closeout activities
• Represent Speedwell Construction professionally in all relationships with subcontractors, clients, and coworkers
• Participate in ongoing training related to safety, quality, and construction best practices
• Demonstrate continuous development of leadership, communication, and technical skills

Required
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• OSHA 10 Construction certification
• Basic ability to read construction drawings
• Entry-level commercial or residential construction experience
• Basic working knowledge of IT systems
• Valid driver's license Preferred
• Multi-story construction experience, including post-tension concrete
• CPR/First Aid certification
• Experience working across multiple construction trades
Work Environment:
Active indoor and outdoor construction jobsites; varying weather, elevated noise, dust, and operating equipment
Physical Requirements:
Sit, stand, walk, climb, crawl, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp, pull; safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs; navigate uneven terrain
Schedule:
Full-time, non-exempt | Monday–Friday | ~40–45 hours/week | Additional hours may be required based on project demands
Travel:
Regular travel to assigned jobsites required; occasional travel for training or company meetings
Pre-Employment:
Drug screening, background check, Motor Vehicle Record review, and valid driver's license required
