Long Memorial United Methodist Church, a vibrant historic congregation on Main Street in the historic and thriving small town of Roxboro, North Carolina, less than 30 miles north of Durham, is seeking a gifted musician to creatively accompany congregational singing, choral and solo pieces, and offer instrumental pieces on the piano and organ during worship, under the direction of the Director of Music.
The Organist/Accompanist will play for two services each Sunday morning and will support the Director of Music on Wednesday nights during choir practice. Applicants should be familiar with and adept at performing classical and modern sacred music.
Working hours vary but include regular evening and Sunday hours. We estimate this part-time position will average 15-20 hours per week, depending on experience and proficiency. This average includes all research, planning, and practice time. This time commitment generally increases seasonally, with peak periods around Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas.
The congregation maintains an Allen Renaissance organ in the sanctuary, featuring three manuals (with pull stops for Choir, General, Swell, and Pedal), a radiated pedal board (including toe pistons), and couplers with many presets. We also maintain a Modest Allen organ in our chapel, and several pianos.
This is a warm, loving, and supportive congregation, and we look forward to working with you!
