Telephone Reassurance Program Volunteer

Responsibilities

• Telephone Reassurance Caller Volunteers make phone calls to participants on their list on assigned days
• Place assigned calls to participants, treating them with kindness, consideration, and respect at all times
• Ask open‑ended questions
• Recognize possible health problems by listening carefully to participant complaints and report any concerns
• Comply with Confidentiality Agreement, maintaining the bond of trust we have with our participants
• Report calls, preferably by email or, if unable, in writing

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must enjoy and value conversations with older adults
• Must have the ability to engage in conversation to ascertain a person’s condition by asking tactful, considerate questions
• Must have the ability to speak clearly, patiently, and at a slow pace
• Must have the ability to speak cheerfully and positively about daily life and shared interests while providing encouragement
• Must have excellent listening skills
• Must have a telephone available to make calls to participants

Work requires reaching, standing, walking, grasping, writing and/or typing, repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and for conveying detailed information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

The volunteer is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
