The General Dentistry Faculty member at the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) provides leadership and supervision of educational and clinical activities while delivering a full range of general dentistry services in an underserved community.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, the Director of Community Dental Practices, and the CSLC Director in the development and supervision of the CSLC.
- Provide high-quality dental care to CSLC patients, supervising students and residents.
- Guide patient referrals and follow-up with appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with local healthcare providers and ensure consistent clinical education for fourth‑year dental students and AEGD residents.
- Mentor AEGD residents and fourth‑year students, supervising their clinical education and community service activities.
- Work with the Business Manager to develop and execute the annual CSLC budget and ensure financial sustainability.
- Recruit, retain, and mentor CSLC staff.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Commission on Dental Accreditation standards.
- Participate in faculty meetings and designated dental school activities.
- Maintain current dental skills and practice general dentistry consistent with the school’s philosophy.
- Identify solutions to local access to healthcare needs and coordinate community outreach and health promotion programs.
- Act as an ambassador for the school, participating in local community and regional programs.
- DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree required.
- Licensed to practice dentistry in North Carolina.
- Knowledge and experience in operating a dental practice, preferably in a rural community.
- Broad knowledge of dental education issues and ethics.
- Advanced education in dentistry (AEGD, GPR or military comprehensive dentistry residency) preferred.
- Three years’ experience in general dentistry practice or a dental educational environment.
- Demonstrated experience building teams and developing solutions.
- Proficiency in all disciplines of general dentistry, including pediatric dentistry and practice management.
