Instructor, Dental Hygiene Program
The Dental Assisting Instructor will teach/educate students in the Dental Hygiene Program. This position is grant funded for 2 years with a high likelihood to continue post grant depending on the success of the program. Program Details:
The Dental Hygiene Program at Isothermal Community College is designed to accommodate students with varying schedules and commitments. The program is conducted in the evenings and on Saturdays to better serve working professionals and non-traditional students. As a faculty member, you will be expected to teach during these evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as part of a team. Deliver courses utilizing a variety of teaching methods which may include a combination of traditional, internet, and hybrid. Advise students in the Dental Hygiene program. Assist director with program assessment. Provide quality instruction, in alignment with CODA accreditation standards, in a variety of dental hygiene courses in the program, lab, lecture and clinical.
Participate in advisory committee and program meetings. Serve as an ambassador in the community for Isothermal Community College. Maintain and update certifications pertinent to program. Perform expectations of a faculty member, including maintaining student office hours, as stated in the Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Develop an understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services and goals of Isothermal Community College. Understand and use the principles of effective teaching. Working skills and knowledge of all Dental Hygiene subjects. Ability to develop good teacher-student-instructor relationship. Administration and supervision ability of personnel and resources.
Minimum Qualifications - 1. Bachelor's degree or higher, required.
2. Coursework in educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation, required.
3. North Carolina Registered Dental Hygienist license, required. 4. At least two years of professional experience as a dental hygienist, required.
