Departmental faculty engage in cutting edge research on signaling, genomics, metabolism, microbiome, immuno-oncology, therapeutic development, and metastatic mechanisms in a range of cancers including breast, lung, prostate, brain, leukemias, melanoma and more in a collaborative environment.

The Department is home to the Cancer Biology PhD program and faculty train PhD and MS students from other programs including Molecular Medicine and Translational Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Integrative Physiology and Pharmacology. The department has a robust undergraduate summer training program and multiple training grants. All Cancer Biology faculty have membership in the AHWFBCCC, providing access to world-class instrumentation and shared resources to support research.

The department is recruiting at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the areas of immuno-oncology, therapeutic development, and druggable target discovery with a focus on emerging methodologies and technology to bolster and grow our existing expertise. Candidates should have an interest in collaboration and cross-disciplinary team and translational science. The Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center is a leader in cancer care, transdisciplinary research, and education. The Cancer Center has held its designation from the National Cancer Institute for more than 50 years. AHWFBCCC provides innovative, relevant cancer research, increases access to high quality cancer care and clinical trials, trustworthy engagement and outreach, and meaningful pipeline programs that foster workforce diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Cancer Center serves a catchment area across 30 counties across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, that includes more than 7 million people and provides care for over 20,000 individuals with newly diagnosed cancer each year at over 20 regional locations.
