Job Description

The Counselor is a part-time, non-clinical position working at campus locations in Anson and Union Counties in North Carolina. Under the direction of the Director of Student Wellness and Advocacy/Title IX Coordinator, the part-time Counselor supports college retention efforts by providing non-clinical counseling and holistic student support to promote academic success, personal growth, and equitable access for all students, including those with disabilities.

This position focuses on short-term personal counseling, academic counseling, and connecting students to appropriate campus and community resources.

Essential Duties Summary

* Offer personal counseling and supportive interventions to help students manage non-clinical concerns such as stress, motivation, adjustment, and life balance affecting academic performance

* Provide academic counseling to assist students in developing educational plans, setting goals, and navigating academic policies and procedures

* Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with institutional policy and federal guidelines

* Refer and provide students to campus and community resources for specialized or clinical needs

* Serve as a Confidential Employee for students in Title IX cases

* Ability to work independently with minimum guidance

* Maintain integrity of the institution through accountability, accuracy, and ethical behavior

* As opportunities allow, participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development to maintain current knowledge of best practices in higher education counseling

* Work variable schedule, if needed, including evenings and/or weekends

* Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree in Counseling, or a related field

* Experience providing counseling to students in an educational setting with an emphasis on personal counseling

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in a community college setting or higher education

* Familiarity with case management systems and student information systems

* Training in crisis response and trauma-informed practices (non-clinical)

* Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

* Proven ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and tactfully with diverse populations to include faculty, staff, administrators, and students while maintaining confidentiality

* Previous customer service experience
