Halifax Community College, as part of a regional consortium with Martin Community College and Roanoke-Chowan Community College, seeks a part-time instructor to teach in a fully online Adult High School (AHS) diploma program.
Instructional Duties- Provide engaging and rigorous instruction appropriate for high school diploma completion.
- Deliver courses online using the program’s learning management system (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, and Canvas).
- Develop and adapt instructional material that align with North Carolina Adult High School Standards.
- Foster a supportive virtual classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning needs and adult education best practices.
- Maintain regular communication with students to encourage courageous completion and academic success.
- Offer in person and/or virtual office hours and provide individualized support as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the AHS Program Director and other instructors to address students’ challenges and promote retention.
- Administer and monitor required assessments, including pre- and post-tests when applicable.
- Participate in team meetings (Virtual or in-person with the AHS Program Director and consortium staff). Share instructional strategies and coordinate content delivery with other facility members.
- At least one year of teaching experience in math, science, or education, preferably with high school or adult learners.
- Current or prior North Carolina teaching license in English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, or Secondary Education.
- Familiarity with Title II–funded adult education programs and the North Carolina Community College System.
- Tutoring experience at the high school level or above.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
