Position: Vice President, Instruction/ Chief Academic Officer
Location: Roxboro

The Vice President of Instruction & Chief Academic Officer has the comprehensive responsibility for the success of students in achieving their educational goals. The Vice President is responsible for educational policy, high‑quality and relevant academic programs, as well as activities and initiatives in accordance with the College’s mission and goals, core values, policies, and priorities. Working collaboratively with the other College Vice Presidents and members of the President’s Cabinet, this individual provides leadership for instruction, accreditation, program review and continuous improvement, student success, as well as the development and evaluation of academic faculty and staff.

The Vice President provides/oversees budget development and fiscal accountability within all areas of institutional instruction. PCC operates as a one‑college model therefore, the Vice President provides oversight for all curriculum academic programs, all continuing education offerings, adult basic skills, institutional accreditations, transfer articulation agreements, high school dual enrollment, distance learning, and The Learning Commons.

Essential Duties
  • Provides leadership for all instructional areas of the College
  • Promotes academic accountability, cooperation, teamwork, and creativity by supporting and modeling PCC’s values
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with the Vice Presidents and other Cabinet members to recommend new and revised policies and procedures; participates in activities that support effective teaching and learning environments; and fiscal accountability
  • Serves as the liaison for overall institutional accreditation, individual program accreditation, and supervises efforts to promote and ensure compliance
  • Leads the development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of institutional programs, activities, and initiatives to enhance student success
  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of appropriate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff
  • Provides leadership surrounding initiatives that assure continuous improvement for student access, success, and completion
  • Monitors teaching and learning trends to ensure course content and teaching methodology are current, effective, and relevant
  • Seeks, evaluates, and executes external funding opportunities that align with the mission and strategic plan of the institution
  • Establishes partnerships with other institutions (two‑year and four‑year)
  • Ensures the quality and compliance of distance learning courses
  • Develops and promotes crosswalks and services between CU and CE offerings
  • Develops and promotes pathways for dual enrollment students
  • Fosters collaborative relationships, programs, and student success initiatives with Person and Caswell County public, private, and home schools
  • Identifies, creates, and updates sustainable university articulation agreements
  • Plans, develops, and monitors the budget for the Instructional division
  • Engages the Board of Trustees
  • Participates in professional organizations, national, and state‑level committees to support the continued success of the College and own professional growth
  • Serves as the primary academic liaison to the NCCCS on behalf of the president
  • Ensures that courses and programs are scheduled and delivered to fulfill the College’s mission and meet the students’ needs
  • Ensures that all deadlines and reporting requirements are met within the division
  • Verifies appropriate faculty credentials to teach classes and programs
  • Other duties as assigned by the President

    • Technical & Manufacturing
    • University Transfer
    • Learning Commons & Educational Partnerships (includes CCP & Distance Learning)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution
  • Five years of experience supervising multi‑department academic units
  • Three years of experience in higher education administration
  • Five years of teaching in a community college setting or higher education setting
