Primary Function of Organizational Unit

North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, NC Cooperative Extension Field Faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides office support and leadership under supervision to Extension staff.
  • Provides administrative support for the County Extension Director and other staff/program areas including Agriculture, Local Foods, 4-H, and Family and Consumer Science.
  • Interacts with other county departments (Human Resources, Finance, Budget, etc.) to ensure effective relationships with county government and partner organizations working with Extension staff.
  • Works with the County Extension Director to develop and effectively manage the county budget and maintain monthly expense records.
Other Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service to call‑in and walk‑in clientele and should have the ability to respond to all clientele.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining county budgets, maintaining grant fund budgets, managing certain Extension reports, communicating with Extension administration, website updates, and creation of the monthly Extension newsletter and marketing materials for Extension Agents.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5 pm – business hours, occasionally evenings and weekends; in‑person only.
  • Minimum Experience/

    Education:

    Graduation from high school and two years of related experience; or graduation from a two‑year secretarial science or business administration program and one year related experience.
  • Department

    Required Skills:

    Extensive knowledge of computer applications; fluency between Google Suite and Microsoft Suite; ability to use multiple devices; willingness to learn new software; highly motivated; strong organizational and multi‑tasking skills; strong written and oral communication; confidentiality; effective time management.
  • Preferred experience, skills, training, education: General understanding of county government budget process and experience with financial systems software.
  • Required License or Certification: Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation; valid North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid NC Driver's License required: Yes.
  • Commercial Driver's License

    Starting at $34,424, commensurate with experience.
