- Assist the teacher in organizing and implementing the instructional program.
- Support the teacher in all instruction of students, following specific instructions, precedents, and established policy.
- Plan and organize instructional activities, develop classroom procedures, and prepare necessary materials.
- Maintain awareness of goals and objectives; assist in evaluating program outcomes.
- Demonstrate clerical and technical skills necessary for program implementation.
- Maintain a positive, professional behavior toward students, parents, administration, and staff.
- Act as a positive role model, communicate student needs, and facilitate the accomplishment of the school program.
- Enforce school policy and carry out supervisory duties to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
- Assist in housekeeping, cleaning, and maintaining classroom cleanliness.
- Perform other duties as prescribed by the LEA or school.
- Instructional Assistance
- Give group instruction as prescribed by the teacher.
- Provide individualized instruction.
- Demonstrate instructional activities.
- Monitor work assigned by the teacher.
- Check and correct students’ work while in progress.
- Keep students on task.
- Praise and reinforce student achievement.
- Report student progress to the teacher.
- Assist with Accelerated Math/Accelerated Reader/Math Facts.
- Serve as substitute teacher.
- Score students’ papers as instructed by the teacher.
- Clerical/Technical Assistance
- Prepare visual aids.
- Duplicate materials.
- Reorganize materials at the end of the day.
- Distribute and collect instructional materials.
- File data according to regulatory requirements.
- Prepare bulletin boards/displays.
- General Classroom Assistance
- Attend workshops.
- Serve as proctor during testing.
- Monitor students in playground, cafeteria, hallway, restroom, and classroom.
- Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment.
- Record student behavior.
- Drive bus as needed.
- Assist with supervision of students during field trips.
- Associate degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university (Associate degree preferred).
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects with minimal force; physical requirements consistent with Light Work.
Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
