The primary location of this position is on‑site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (SHRA). The role assists with management of the unit by assigning materials to catalogers, resolving workflow issues, collaborating with the Unit Head to develop, refine, and document workflows and procedures, and supporting coordination with units and departments across the library.
It serves as the lead cataloger for the Cataloging and Metadata Unit, providing guidance to staff on a wide range of cataloging issues, reviewing the work of other catalogers, and supporting training and workflow consistency within the unit. The position also catalogs complex formats, including digital materials, music, maps, and other non‑book resources, and identifies and corrects problems within the UNC system's collaborative cataloging environment.

- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC Connexion, MARC formats, RDA, and related cataloging tools and standards for books, serials, maps, special formats, and authority records.
- Ability to create, edit, and maintain bibliographic and metadata records for library and digital collections materials, including application of classification systems, subject headings, and other controlled vocabularies.
- Ability to perform detailed, accurate work independently in a production‑oriented environment and to identify, analyze, and resolve cataloging and workflow issues effectively.
- Ability to train and support staff, document procedures, develop workflows, evaluate new technologies, manage projects, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across the library.
Graduation from a four‑year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Compensation and BenefitsAnticipated hiring range: $55,000. Salary band range: $34,133 - $73,667. Position type:
Permanent Full‑Time. Hours per week: 40. Months per year: 12.
