Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher - General Curriculum
Under general supervision, the EC Teacher (General Curriculum) serves students with disabilities in a range of educational settings, providing specially designed instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and specialists to ensure the academic, functional, and behavioral success of students in the general curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Provides direct instruction aligned with the general curriculum, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs.
- Uses evidence-based instructional practices, interventions, and assistive technology.
- Collects and analyzes student data to inform instruction and IEP goals.
- Collaborates with general education teachers to support inclusion and accommodations.
- Participates in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and student support teams.
- Maintains accurate records of student progress and required documentation.
- Manages student behavior using positive and proactive strategies, including crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
- Participates in professional development as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of disabilities and their impact on learning.
- Understanding of specially designed instruction and general curriculum standards.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Familiarity with IEP processes and legal requirements.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
- Ability to use technology and assistive devices to support learning.
- Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain an organized and safe classroom environment.
- North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Exceptional Children:
General Curriculum (or eligible for licensure). - Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
