Qualifications and

Job Description

Minimum Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education or field of instruction; NC Certification/Teaching License or ability to receive a NC Teaching License;
Bachelor degree preferred. Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

  • Reports to the Principal
  • Middle School Electives (5th - 8th): Takes daily attendance
  • Middle School Electives (5th - 8th): Assigns grades via Infinite Campus according to School guidelines
  • Elementary Specials (K-4th): Reads First Six Weeks of School and uses the Responsive Classroom approach to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
  • Middle School Electives (5th - 8th): Read the middle school Responsive Advisory Meeting book and become familiar with middle school Responsive Classroom practices; uses the Middle School Responsive Classroom approach to create a conducive learning environment.
  • Teach students to care and build relationships through positive behavior and language toward students, staff, and community using Responsive Classroom practices.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all student life and conduct policies; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in a fair manner.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of ACS curriculum and actively engage in training, ask questions, and implement instructional plans effectively.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plan program of study aligned with curriculum set forth by the administrative team.
  • Plan program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Prepare lessons for assigned classes individually and with team, providing written evidence of preparation that meets all ACS lesson plan non‑negotiables.
  • Guide learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons, units and projects, and communicate them to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical limitations of the location provided and the needs of the students.
  • Strive to implement school philosophy of education and instructional goals through Project Based Learning and supporting grade level projects.
  • Assess students' accomplishments regularly.
  • Seek assistance from EC Teachers and Facilitator as required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and administrative regulation.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain clean and organized classroom supporting student learning and reflecting respect.
  • Implement daily routines and procedures promoting student responsibility for cleanliness of classroom and the School.
  • Avail for students and parents for education related purposes outside instructional day when required, under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend meetings, school events, and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with Staff Daily Check‑in and Out System.
  • Read and understand Employee Handbook.
  • Read and understand Parent‑Student Handbook.
  • Read, understand, and follow ACS Employee Code of Ethics & General Standards of Conduct.
