Grant Funded Position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be certified in good standing as a licensed provider (LPC, LCSW, LSP,
LCMHC, or LMFT).
2. Must possess a valid license from the state of North Carolina to serve as a therapist
in an elementary or secondary school.
3. Must possess a Master's degree related to the license.
4. Must have experience providing students with interventions, preferably within a
multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework.
5. Must relate well to children and adults.
6. Must communicate effectively and be able to work as a member of a team.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides school-based mental health services, including but not limited to group and
individual counseling, to students within McDowell County School District in
alignment with the framework of the district's MTSS model.
• Provides all services in a manner consistent with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and all other applicable laws and profession-specific ethical obligations.
• Collaborates with teachers to administer a universal screener to identify students
needing further assessment.
• Expands and/or refines school-based mental health services provided to students based
upon their identified needs and progress over time.
• Enters notes and information into the electronic health record system to assist with the
tracking of SBMH services provided to students.
• Performs activities necessary to maintain licensure, such as continuing education
and/or clinical supervision hours.
• Participates in School-Based Mental Health provider (SBMH) Professional Learning
Communities (PLCs) and engages in professional development relevant to identified
student and provider needs.
• As appropriate, attends local, regional, and/or national conferences and meetings, such
as the annual SMBH grantee meeting.
• Locates and uses community resources and collaborates with community agencies to
meet student and family needs.
• Promotes positive relationships with and serves as a liaison to families, schools, and
the community.
• Promotes regular school attendance and safe, caring, and drug-free schools.
• Empowers and is an advocate for students and families.
• Provides appropriate services for homeless students.
• Provides crisis intervention services.
• Completes action plans for families and students.
• Provides short/long-term case management services to individual students.
• Participates in transition planning for students.
• Reports suspected child abuse/neglect.
• Promotes parental involvement in school conferences and responsibility for regular
school attendance.
• Facilitates parent groups.
• Assists families with the interpretation of school policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with support personnel within the school.
• Assesses school needs and implements appropriate programs, groups and, initiatives to
target identified at-risk populations.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
