POSITION: Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Responsibilities- A. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Instructional Time – The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, starts the class quickly, puts students on task promptly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. - B. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Management of Student Behavior – The teacher establishes rules & procedures for verbal participation, classroom movement, and administrative matters; monitors behavior during all activities, intervenes promptly, and maintains student dignity. - C. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Presentation – The teacher reviews previous material, introduces objectives, presents content in clear language, uses examples and demonstrations, assigns successful tasks, asks appropriate questions, manages pace, and summarizes at lesson’s end. - D. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher sets clear standards, circulates to check performance, uses oral & written checks, and asks questions clearly. - E. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional Feedback – The teacher provides corrective and sustaining feedback in‑class and out‑of‑class, affirms correct responses, and probes incorrect or non‑responses. - F. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Facilitating Instruction – The teacher follows a curriculum‑aligned plan, uses assessment data to revise objectives, documents performance, and utilizes resources. - G. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community. - H. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – The teacher performs non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws and policies, and pursues professional development. - Additional

Degree in education or a related field qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications and StandardsPhysical Requirements: Ability to use a variety of equipment and tools, lift/carry light objects, and perform light work.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge observable characteristics.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak, signal, and receive instructions.
Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare written materials in prescribed formats.
Intelligence: Ability to apply logical thinking, interpret instructions, and draw conclusions.
Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver, explain information, and communicate professionally.
Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hand and eye movements rapidly and accurately.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle office and hand tools; minimal coordination.
Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate colors and shades.
Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to handle people under stress and emergencies.
Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear; telephone communication.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Constantly monitor student safety and well‑being.
- Motivate students.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform clerical duties.
- Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
- Operate common office machines and maintain records.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
