Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life

Department: Office, Assoc VC Student Affairs

Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus. This position is exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA) and has an appointment period of 12 months per year. The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life plays a critical role in fostering student success through leadership, engagement, and community development within the fraternity and sorority community.

This position supports student learning, personal growth, and organizational accountability by advising councils, overseeing key programs, and tracking success metrics. The Assistant Director is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and works collaboratively across campus to enhance the student experience.

Key Responsibilities Leadership Development and Student Success
  • Serve as the primary contact and support for Greek councils, facilitating leadership development and collaboration among chapters.
Community Engagement & Support
  • Collaborate with other departments to implement engaging programs and recognize accountability through positive awards and acknowledgment.
Student Support & Risk Management
  • Provide case management for fraternity and sorority members, ensuring compliance with university policies and national guidelines focused on member well-being.
Administration & Development
  • Oversee social media interactions and maintain resources for chapter programming while participating in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship from the employer.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field, or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience post‑degree in higher education and/or fraternity and sorority life. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Understanding of the values and principles of fraternity and sorority life, as demonstrated by relevant coursework, certifications, or professional experience.
  • Analytical skills and experience with assessment and data management, evidenced by specific examples or previous roles requiring these skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively, supported by examples from previous positions.
  • Experience in leadership development, advising, and program management, as shown by specific roles or documented achievements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to belonging, accountability, and holistic student development, supported by examples or previous initiatives.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Inter/National fraternity and sorority systems, policies, and procedures, as evidenced by relevant coursework, certifications, or professional experience.
  • Experience advising or working with NPHC (National Pan‑Hellenic Council) and/or multicultural Greek student letter organizations, supported by specific roles or documented experience.
  • Documented experience in developing and implementing successful student engagement programs, demonstrated by specific examples or measurable outcomes from previous positions.
