Summary
An educator in the Multi-Classroom Leader™ role leads a small team of teachers, paraprofessionals, and teaching residents in the same grade or subject to meet high standards of excellence. The team leader establishes each member’s roles and goals, determines how students spend time, and assigns teaching roles to fit each teacher’s strengths, content knowledge, and professional development goals. The team leader co-plans, co-teaches, models, coaches, gives feedback, and leads the team in building a tutoring culture, while also teaching students part of the time.
The leader analyzes student learning data with the team and adjusts instruction to ensure high-growth learning, with a focus on small-group teaching and tutoring. The leader collaborates with the team on ideas and innovations, and directs any paraprofessionals under their supervision. The team leader is fully accountable for the learning and development of all students taught by the team members.
This role requires teaching students directly for at least 30% of the time, either as the teacher of record or through team teaching in classrooms with students.
Planning and Preparation
- Set high, ambitious, and measurable achievement expectations for all students taught by the team
- Establish methods and create instructional tools and materials used by all team teachers
- Provide directional guidance to clarify content and teaching processes
- Lead the team to plan backward to align lessons, activities, and assessments to a high-standard curriculum; design and lead instruction that is enriched and personalized; prioritize small-group teaching and tutoring; design assessments; prepare to deliver small-group instruction
Classroom Environment
- Ensure high behavior and engagement expectations are clear, ambitious, and measurable
- Create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning
- Establish a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
Instruction
- Hold students accountable for ambitious, measurable academic standards
- Maximize learning with small-group teaching and tutoring
- Address individual students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs and barriers
- Support development of organizational and time-management skills
- Engage students using varied instructional strategies, questioning, and discussion
- Monitor and analyze assessment data to inform instruction and small-group work
- Communicate with students and keep them informed of progress
Professional Responsibilities
- Solicit and apply feedback from supervisors and team members
- Maintain regular communication with families to support learning at home and at school
- Organize team time to align instructional vision and prioritize small-group teaching
- Allocate instructional tasks among team members based on strengths and professional goals
- Assign noninstructional administrative duties to the team
- Model instructional tasks to aid team development
- Provide ongoing feedback and developmental guidance to team members
- Participate in professional development opportunities
Qualifications
- Knowledge of subject matter being taught
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid teaching certificate
- Evidence of high-growth student learning in relevant subjects (e.g., at least 1.1 average EVAAS growth over the last 3 years)
- Experience leading a team of adults to accomplish goals is preferred
- Demonstrated interpersonal effectiveness with adults and students
Hours
- Full-time position
- One hour-long virtual meeting each month after school hours (4-5 PM)
- Professional development and other work possible during summer 2026
- Built-in planning and collaboration time to complete administrative tasks, analyze data, plan instruction, and manage the team
Pay
- NC Teacher Salary Schedule plus a stipend (approx $10,000). Performance is evaluated annually for contract renewal.
