Overview

This position supports an NSF EEC grant (#
2339289
) focusing on undergraduate experiences when reconsidering their choice of major. This position is housed in the School of Engineering and will last for a maximum of three years. For this project the postdoctoral scholar will be expected to coordinate data collection, organize a large collection of longitudinal data to ensure anonymity, conduct interviews, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, oversee undergraduate researchers, and contribute to publications.

The PI has a stronger qualitative background and is particularly interested in applicants with stronger statistical training to take a leading role in the quantitative component of this mixed-methods study. In the second and third years of the project, materials and interventions will be developed based on the findings. This position will require coordination of undergraduate research assistants and may also include coordination of faculty who are implementing grant-developed interventions.

Additional opportunities can include mentored teaching experience(s), grant writing, article writing for research or practitioner journals, and presenting at conferences as desired to support the successful candidate’s career goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate large-scale data collection and longitudinal tracking (10%)
  • Statistical analysis of data including cluster analysis (20%)
  • Interview participants in a mentored setting (5%)
  • Analyze qualitative data in a research team (15%)
  • Triangulate qualitative and quantitative data (15%)
  • Lead or contribute to publications and presentations to share results (10%)
  • Develop materials and interventions from findings (0% in first year, grows as other areas decrease)
  • Additional duties to support goals and growth, including but not limited to mentored teaching experiences, mentored grant writing, contributing to other projects, and other academic pursuits (25%)
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education/Experience
  • PhD in engineering education, DBER, engineering, or a STEM field with an interest in education required
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various groups through both oral and written channels
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong educational research skills, especially in quantitative and/or mixed methods
  • Experience with statistical analysis including cluster analysis
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics and SAS, JMP, or similar statistical software packages
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, and students
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
  • Exercise good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
