The Instructor is responsible for the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of instruction in assigned courses across classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online learning environments. The Instructor supports student learning and success while ensuring compliance with North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) standards, Martin Community College (MCC) policies and procedures, and applicable external regulatory bodies and accreditation requirements.

Instructional assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses and require effective use of instructional technology, student assessment practices, and learning management systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

* Develop, organize, and deliver course instruction in accordance with approved curriculum standards and departmental guidelines.

* Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities aligned with student learning outcomes.

* Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to support diverse learning styles, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.

* Maintain course content, grade books, and instructional materials within the College's learning management system (LMS).

* Evaluate and revise instructional strategies and course materials based on assessment data, student performance, and program needs.

Assessment & Student Support

* Establish and apply fair, consistent, and transparent grading practices.

* Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using College-approved systems.

* Provide academic advising, mentoring, and instructional support to students as needed.

* Work collaboratively with Disability Services to implement approved accommodations.

* Address student concerns professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the appropriate supervisor.

Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities

* Submit required reports, including attendance, grades, FTE, and progress reports, in a timely manner.

* Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, and colleagues using College-approved communication methods.

* Maintain regular office hours in accordance with departmental expectations.

* Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation activities.

* Serve on college committees and attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, and institutional events, including graduation.

Professional Expectations

* Stay current in assigned academic discipline and instructional best practices.

* Complete all required institutional training, including FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety.

* Perform other duties as assigned in support of the College's mission.

Open Educational Resources (OER) / Affordable Educational Resources (AER)

* Where applicable and appropriate to the instructional program, the instructor is expected to support the College's commitment to affordability and access by evaluating, selecting, developing, and implementing Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or Affordable Educational Resources (AER). This includes:

* Investigating and utilizing OER/AER materials that align with approved curriculum standards and student learning outcomes.

* Collaborating with academic leadership and library services, as appropriate, to identify high-quality, accessible instructional resources.

* Ensuring that the use of OER/AER materials maintains academic rigor, instructional quality, and compliance with accreditation and program requirements.

* In programs or courses where OER/AER materials are not feasible, available, or appropriate due to licensure, accreditation, or curricular constraints, instructors may utilize traditional textbooks or publisher-supported resources in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Work Schedule

* Instructors are expected to maintain a regular on-campus schedule consistent with instructional assignments, departmental needs, and institutional responsibilities.

* Work hours may vary based on teaching assignments, student support requirements, and other instructional or college-related obligations.

* Instructors are required to be on campus a minimum of 30 hours per week, with certain duties and responsibilities necessitating more than 30 on-campus hours at various times during the academic term.

* The remaining 10 hours of the standard 40-hour work week may be completed either on campus or at another approved location. This time is expected to be dedicated to instructional preparation and support activities, including but not limited to:

* Developing and updating face-to-face, blended, hybrid, and/or online course materials, resources, and learning activities.
