Job DescriptionThis position supports classroom instruction and assists teachers with organizing and implementing instructional programs. The teacher assistant also performs clerical, technical and monitorial duties to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
QualificationsAn associate degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university (or a community college TA course of at least 96 contact hours) and a passing Work Keys score.
Reports toPrincipal and Teacher
PurposeAssist the teacher in organizing and implementing the instructional program and provide support for clerical, technical and monitorial functions.
Nature of WorkThe teacher assistant supports student instruction, follows specific instructions and policies, exercises judgment to solve problems, and works under limited supervision of the teacher and/or principal. The work is performed with a light physical demand consistent with standing and walking.
Major Functions Planning/Organizing the Instructional ProgramAid the teacher with organizing instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials.
Implementing the Instructional ProgramMaintain awareness of goals and objectives, help implement the planned program and assist in evaluating outcomes.
Clerical/TechnicalDemonstrate clerical and technical skills needed to assist with program implementation.
Professional BehaviorParticipate in the total school program, maintain positive behavior toward students, parents, administration and staff.
Public RelationsAct as a positive role model, communicate student needs, and facilitate the accomplishment of the total school program.
MonitorialAssist in enforcing school policy and carry out supervisory duties to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
HousekeepingAssist in developing housekeeping procedures and share responsibility for classroom and school cleanliness.
Other Duties- Drive a bus as needed.
The ability to use classroom equipment and tools, lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects with negligible force frequently, and stand or walk for prolonged periods consistent with light work.

- Provide individualized instruction.
- Demonstrate various instructional activities.
- Monitor work assigned by teacher.
- Check and correct students' work while in progress.
- Keep students on task.
- Praise and reinforce student achievement.
- Report student progress to teacher.
- Assist with Accelerated Math/Accelerated Reader/Math Facts.
- Serve as substitute teacher.
- Score students' papers as instructed by teacher.
- Prepares visual aids and duplicates materials.
- Reorganizes materials at the end of day.
- Distributes and collects instructional materials.
- Files data according to regulatory requirements.
- Prepares bulletin boards/displays.
- Attend workshops.
- Serve as proctor during testing.
- Monitor students in the playground, cafeteria, hallway, restroom, and classroom.
- Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment.
- Address/record student behavior.
- Drive bus as needed.
- Assist with supervision of students during field trips.
